An amazingly scenic 4 hours drive through the Scottish Highlands from Edinburgh or Glasgow to Ullapool. CalMac (www.calmac.co.uk) runs ferries all year round. Choose to sail from Ullapool to Stornoway (1 hour drive from Inverness then 2.5 hour sailing) – the Longhouse is 6 miles north of Stornoway – or take your time coming through Skye, catch the ferry to Harris (1.5 hour sailing) then drive up to Lewis (1 hour to the house from Tarbert).
Fly here in less than an hour – daily flights to Stornoway from Glasgow, Edinburgh and Inverness (and Manchester during summer) loganair.co.uk. The Longhouse is 15 minutes drive, 9 miles, from Stornoway airport.
Easy to get to but hard to leave. Click here for how to find the Longhouse once on the island. When you get here, we are also on a local bus route so you can give the car a holiday too! For electric or hybrid cars, we have an EV chargepoint at the house for ‘refuelling’ (additional agreed charge for use)
The Longhouse, on the Isle of Lewis, is set low on the hillside 50m walk from the beach with wide, uninterrupted views east, south and west. Soak up the views and watch the skies change through floor-to-ceiling windows, south over the bay and reeds beds, east to stunning sunrises over that bay or west to a sunset over the moors.
